Information for graduating students

If you’re moving on from the University, there are some changes to the services you’ll be able to access.

Your IT account

If you're graduating in Summer 2022, your University IT account will close at the end of the day on Sunday 31 July, and there will be changes to the services you can access.

You may want to save any important files and emails in advance of your account expiry. Also, if you still have any Library books, visit this webpage.

If you are staying on at the University, you will retain access to your IT account until the end of your course.

If you need temporary access to your IT account after you leave, telephone the IT Support Centre on 0161 306 5544.

Microsoft Office 365, including your University email address (

You will no longer have access to the Office 365 software suite, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneDrive and your University email. You should forward or transfer any emails you want to keep to a non-University email account before your account expires.

Note that any data you have stored in OneDrive is deleted by Microsoft within 24 hours of your account expiry, and your email data is deleted 30 days after account expiry.

It is really important that you transfer any files or emails before your account expires as IT Services won’t be able to recover them for you.

My Manchester and Blackboard

Once your account is closed, you won’t be able to access your Blackboard course materials or the services provided by My Manchester, even with temporary access.

Personal network storage space (P: drive)

You should save any files you want to keep from your personal network storage space (P: drive) to an alternative location.

Services available to you

The Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DDAR) are here to:

  • Help you stay connected with the University;
  • Connect you with other alumni who can help with your career and next steps;
  • Help you access services like Library E-resources and the Careers Service.

To make sure that DDAR can help you, please tell them about any changes to your contact details by using the student centre on My Manchester before your IT account expires.

You can continue to use the full range of services at the Careers Service for two years after the end of your course, including CareerConnect for opportunities, appointments and events. Don’t forget to also join The University of Manchester Recent Graduate Careers Network on LinkedIn.

You can contact the Careers service via online chat, CareerConnect 'queries' or

Staying on?

If your studies are continuing, you will retain access to your IT account until the end of your current course.

Contact your school office if you have any questions about your leave date. You should also contact your school office if you would like to amend your application contact email to a personal email account.

If you are planning to return to the University at a later date (for example, as a Postgraduate or member of staff), your IT account will be reactivated with the same username. Ensure you use a personal email address with your application, as your email address will only be re-accessible after you have been accepted on to your new course or employed. Note that if there are more than 30 days between your account expiration and its reactivation, then your old emails will not be accessible.
