Telephone and mobile device recycling
Telephone handset recycling
If you have an old telephone handset that is now out of use, please follow the updated process below.
The telephone handset recycling cages previously located across campus were removed on Friday 25 July 2025.
Recycling locations for staff
- Drop-off at the IT Helpdesk: Staff can hand in old desktop phones at the IT Helpdesk. These will be passed on to the Estates team for recycling.
- Bulk or large collections: If you have a significant number of devices to recycle, you can request a collection via Estates.
What happens to my equipment?
All collected telephone equipment is sent for electrical waste recycling. None of it goes to landfill, in line with the University’s sustainability goals.
What items can I recycle?
Items that you can dispose of in these recycling locations include:
- Telephone handsets that are no longer in use.
- Associated telephone cabling.
Please note: these electrical recycling areas are only for telephone handsets and phone cables.
