Information for graduating students

Your IT account

If you are graduating in December 2025, your IT account will close on Tuesday 6 January 2026, and there will be changes to the services you can access, unless you are staying on at the University.

If you are staying at the University on another programme, or have already started another role at the University, you will retain access to your IT account. See the "Staying on?" section towards the end of this message for more details.

Microsoft 365, including your University email address (your.name@student.manchester.ac.uk)

You will no longer have access to Microsoft 365 services, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneDrive and your University email.

You should forward or transfer any emails you want to keep to a non-University email account before your account closes.

If you have your University email address set as a recovery email address on any external services, please ensure this is changed.

Note that your data will be deleted, and IT Services will not be able to recover your data shortly after your account is closed. It is very important that you transfer any files or emails before your account closes.

Canvas

Once your account is closed, you won't be able to access your Canvas course materials.

Network and OneDrive storage

You should save any files you want to keep from your personal network storage space (P: drive) or OneDrive to an alternative location.

Development and Alumni Relations

The Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DDAR) are here to help you stay connected with the University.

By sharing your contact details with DDAR, you'll start to receive:

  • an alumni newsletter every two weeks - enjoyed by tens of thousands of alumni worldwide;
  • invitations to University events in your country or region;
  • opportunities to share your experience with current students;
  • access to the Library and some e-resources.

To make sure that DDAR can keep in touch with you, please tell them about any changes to your contact details in the student system before your IT account closes. After your account closes, use the change your personal details form to stay in touch with the University.

Careers

You can continue to use the Careers Service's full range of services for two years after the end of your course. By changing your personal details using the link above, you will receive the Graduate Outcomes survey 15 months after you finish your course.

Continue to use your student credentials to log into CareerConnect. Once they stop working, you can create a graduate CareerConnect account to search for vacancies, appointments and events. Don’t forget to also join The University of Manchester Recent Graduate Careers Network on LinkedIn.

You can contact the Careers service via email, or ask a question on CareerConnect.

Other useful Careers resources:

Library

You can access Library services as an alumni member. All you need to do is visit the Help Desk at Main Library (Monday to Friday, 8am to 7.30pm, or weekends from 9am-4.30pm), fill in a form and a member of staff will process the membership application.

Digital transcripts

To access your digital transcripts after you have left, you will need to access Parchment (Digitary CORE) using your preferred personal email account, not your University account. If you are due to graduate in the upcoming graduation period, please be aware that your documents will only be made available on Parchment after the date of your graduation ceremony.

Staying on?

If you are staying on at the University on another programme, or have already started another role at the University, you will retain access to your IT account for as long as you're at the University.

Contact your school office if you have any questions about your leave date. You should contact your admissions office if you would like to amend your application contact email to a personal email account.

If you are planning to return to the University at a later date (for example, as a Postgraduate or member of staff), your IT account will be reactivated with the same username. Ensure you use a personal email address with your application, as your email address will only be re-accessible after you have been accepted on to your new course or employed. Note that if there are more than 30 days between your account closure and its reactivation, then your old emails will not be accessible. If you are starting a role which is not related to your course, please approach your hiring manager or People Services if you have any queries.
