High Performance Computing (HPC) "External"

External HPC resources are available for researchers to perform computationally intensive research. The University is a stakeholder in the regional HPC resource, a Tier 2 resource that sits between local and national HPC resources in terms of capability and flexibility.

Features

  • A variety of different HPC resources supplied by a variety of providers, including the University of Edinburgh (ARCHER) and research councils (Jasmine, Blue Gene etc.)
  • Users can run multiple computational jobs simultaneously
  • Multi-core and/or jobs which need a large amount of memory can also be run simultaneously
  • Platforms run using a ‘batch’ environment, so jobs are submitted into a queue and run without user interaction

Eligibility

Research staff and Postgraduate Research students are eligible to use this service.

Service Level Agreement (SLA)

We aim to respond to service requests within one working day and to resolve standard queries and requests within 5 working days. However, because of the wide variety of requests we receive related to this service, in some cases resolution may take much longer. If this is the case you will be notified via the ticketing system; you will also receive regular updates until your request is resolved.

Availability

This service is available 24/7. Availability is estimated at 99%.
