High Performance Computing (HPC) "External"

External HPC resources are available for researchers to perform computationally intensive research. The University is a stakeholder in the regional HPC resource, a Tier 2 resource that sits between local and national HPC resources in terms of capability and flexibility.

  • A variety of different HPC resources supplied by a variety of providers, including the University of Edinburgh (ARCHER) and research councils (Jasmine, Blue Gene etc.)
  • Users can run multiple computational jobs simultaneously
  • Multi-core and/or jobs which need a large amount of memory can also be run simultaneously
  • Platforms run using a ‘batch’ environment, so jobs are submitted into a queue and run without user interaction
