What we do with old equipment
Where redundant equipment cannot be reused within the University, there is a formal agreement with Stone Group, who remove such equipment to their premises.
Please ensure that all items are ready for collection ahead of ticket submission and that if a cage is being used it is filled no more than half full.
Once at Stone, all equipment is sorted and recorded in an asset report. This asset report is provided to the University, along with annual data on the amount of waste that is removed from the University. The last report received from Stone Group detailed that the University saved over 453 tonnes of CO2 over the last period.
Stone has an obligation to ensure that they employ the best practices available to recover and prolong the life of equipment that they collect. Every piece of equipment that is received by Stone is either reused or disposed of correctly and responsibly.
Redundant equipment is returned to the IT Services Recycling Facility where the equipment is checked and assessed for its suitability to be re-used elsewhere on campus.
Any equipment that is not suitable for reuse is removed by the University’s contractors: Stone – IT Asset Disposal (ITAD)
Equipment that is suitable for reuse is checked for faults, has all data wiped from hard discs and is cleaned ready for reissue.
During the University teaching calendar 22-23, we diverted 4.29 tonnes of waste from landfill, saving over 453 tonnes of CO2 in the process.
