Checking the Amount of Space (Quota) on your P: Drive

You should keep an eye on the amount of space left on your P: drive to avoid overfilling it which could result in loss or corruption of data. Typically Word documents, images, etc. can take up anything from a few KB to several MB (several thousands of KB) depending on their complexity; so make sure you have plenty of space left before saving files to your P: drive.

This is particularly important to check before you upload files to your P: drive via the web as you will not get a warning that there is insufficient space (note: you will need to check how much space you have before you leave the campus).

  1. Click on the "My Computer" icon; this will either be on the desktop or is available from the Start menu.
  2. Find the drive that is referred to as 'P:' in the Network Drives list.  It will be labelled with your username, e.g. "mabiixx3 on...".
  3. On a Staff Desktop machine, there is a free space column. Otherwise you can right-click your P: drive and select Properties to view the amount of free space.
