Choosing a Password
Your password must be chosen as follows:
- To be at least 10 characters long (preferably 10-16 is possible)
- Contain a mixture of lower and uppercase letters
- Contain at least 2 numbers
- Contain at least 1 special characters (such as a punctuation mark !, or a hash mark #, etc). Note that blank spaces are NOT permitted as characters

Your passwords should NOT consist of any of the following:
- Usernames (or variations of these)
- Names (either real or fictitious)
- Words, abbreviations or acronyms (as found in dictionaries of any language)
- Any of the above modified by: Reversal - (e.g. mypassword >> drowssapym)
- Simple substitutions of the letters i and o for number 1 and 0 (e.g. mypassword >> mypassw0rd)
- Single digit numbers, two or four digit years or single punctuation/symbol characters added to the beginning or the end
Your passwords must NEVER be disclosed to others, not even to University IT staff
Ideally your passwords should never be written down or recorded in any other way. Only if you absolutely cannot memorise your passwords should you write them down and they MUST ALWAYS be stored separately from their corresponding usernames.
