Reusing IT equipment

Redundant IT equipment is returned to the IT Services Recycling Facility where the equipment is checked and assessed for its suitability to be re-used elsewhere on campus.

Any equipment that is not suitable for reuse is removed by the University’s contractors:

Equipment that is suitable for reuse is checked for faults, has all data wiped from hard discs and is cleaned ready for reissue.

Over 20 tonnes of redundant equipment has been reused in this way between 2010-13. This has saved an estimated 121t CO2e (121 tonnes Carbon Dioxide equivalent) when compared with buying new equipment.
